Bringing An Alternative Fuel Source To Our Mountain Community
- Creating a fuel from renewable resources collected in the area
- Significantly reducing members’ carbon emissions and fuel cost
- Member and community access to a carbon nuetral co-op community car
Our Mission
Trout Lake Biofuel Co-op will provide Trout Lake and the surrounding area with high quality SVO (straight vegetable oil) and biodiesel for use in diesel engines. Our primary focus is to create a high performance fuel out of recycled and WVO (waste vegetable oil) and provide a source to purchase B99 (99.9 % biodiesel) fuel. Also, we are focused on the education and the support of converting diesel vehicles to run on SVO. Environmentally, our cooperative will reduce our carbon footprint while using a non-toxic and mostly recycled renewable fuel. Economically, each cooperative member will save a significant amount per gallon on our biofuels compared to the price of petroleum diesel and/or commercially produced biodiesel. Finally, our cooperative will make Trout Lake and its surrounding area a more self-reliant and connected community.
Greetings all environmentally conscious alternative fuel-seeking friends. We're on the verge of a transportation revolution here in Trout Lake, Washington and we want you to take part!
Trout Lake Biofuel Co-op (TLBC) is comprised of local community members interested in exploring and utilizing alternative fuel and transportation options as a means to enhance the community, save money and reduce our carbon footprint. The co-op went public in May by hosting a biofuel informative dinner fundraiser featuring a biofuel expert keynote speaker and live music. Since then, the co-op has continued to build membership, establish an alternative fuel network and inform the community all while securing and collecting from waste vegetable oil suppliers in the area. Additionally, we're waist-deep into the process of attaining (501)(3)(c) non-profit status that will increase our eligibility for grants and tax exemptions!
These long months of planning, meeting, discussing and networking have ushered us to a launching pad from which one key element could send us skyward: the TLBC Veggie Flex Car! A community-shared vehicle powered by straight vegetable oil will grant co-op members and the Trout Lake Community many profound benefits:
- Provide transportation for members without personal vehicles
- Give all members (those both owning and lacking personal vehicles) the opportunity to use carbon-neutral transportation
- Provide Trout Lake with a virtually free transportation option
- Promote car-pooling
- Act as a traveling bulletin that promotes environmentally conscious action
- Serve as an advertising medium for financially supportive organizations to display their logos
- Attract more members
You, conscious citizen, can be the catalyst of this revolution! The past several weeks have been dedicated to identifying possible vehicle-donating organizations and groups, brainstorming and planning for fundraisers, and searching for potential vehicle options. While we're investing all of our resources into this new project, your donation of a diesel car or contribution toward the purchase of a diesel car would help make TLBC one of the most visible and influential environmental organizations in the Columbia River Gorge.
Any gift will be greatly appreciated and well-utilized. In return, you will receive monthly updates of the co-op's progress, honorary usage of the TLBC Flex Car, a permanent on-car recognition display, and the peace of mind that you've influenced an entire community's environmental impact.
