Trout Lake, Washington is a town of about 600 friendly people located 13 miles south of the PCT junction with Forest Service Road 23 Southwest of Mt. Adams. From the north, this junction is 2.8 trail miles after leaving Mt. Adams Wilderness Area. From the south this junction is 79.2 trail miles north of Cascade Locks/Bridge of the Gods. Forest Service Road 23 is paved with light traffic, but a hitch-ride should come by quite often. This road becomes Mt. Adams Road as you approach the town of Trout Lake and junctions with Hwy 141 in the center of town.

The Gifford Pinchot National Forest is located in southwest Washington State. The Forest provides a wide variety of recreation opportunities and includes the 110,000 acre Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument established by Congress in 1982. For information call: 509-395-3400.

- Washington Trails Association (WTA)
is a volunteer-driven, non-profit organization working to preserve, enhance and promote hiking opportunities in Washington state through collaboration, education, advocacy and trail maintenance.
- Pacific Crest Trail Association (PCTA)
The mission of the PCTA is to promote, preserve and protect the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail (PCT), so as to reflect its world-class significance for the enjoyment, education and adventure of hikers and equestrians. The association strives to achieve this mission by promoting the PCT as a unique educational and recreational treasure and one of the finest trails anywhere in the world. The association also provides a broad range of services to its members, serves as a communications link among users and land management agencies, and assists the USDA Forest Service as well as other agencies in the maintenance, restoration and protection of the PCT.
- Trout Lake Natural Area Preserve (DNR)
Trout Lake isn’t just a lake. It’s an extensive freshwater wetland system, home to cranes, woodpeckers, eagles, frogs, and hundreds of other fish and wildlife. Trout Lake is a natural treasure, and one of the many lands managed by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
