The course will provide an overview of the legal and practical aspects of amending our Sub-Area Comp Plan and zoning and will address some specific questions raised by the Committee, including the following:

• What Growth Management Act requirements apply to Klickitat County and how do these requirements affect our planning process?
• How do we evaluate and use growth projections and buildable land projections?
• How do we put the pieces together in a planning process? For example, if we settle on a projected growth rate, how do we translate that into other plan elements such as commercial, services, multi-family zoning, and so on.
• What tools are available for directing growth (residential, commercial and ?) into areas where we want it to go and out of areas where we do not want it to go? What is available under law and what has worked?
• What tools are available for protecting our natural resource base, including farming and timber?
